Gentle hands caught Lumen on falling star night. The kind jar had grass and moonlight holes. She was the brightest light the child kept.
The first night, her glow filled the bedroom. Lights that are kept begin to forget shine. Each night, her little lantern grew quieter.
Outside the window, the meadow searched for her. She answered slower, then almost not at all. The child watched her fading, and finally understood.
Under falling stars, small hands opened the lid. Her light returned like a golden sunrise. She circled the child once, a thank you.
Now every August, a bright star visits.
