Wisp Stays

Wisp is the only friend nobody else can see, and as school gets closer, his paws start turning faintly see-through. A gentle bedtime story about an imaginary friend who almost fades away, the crayon drawing that brings him back, and the door that lets him stay forever. For every little one who is not quite ready to grow up.

Nobody else could ever see Wisp. Every morning, they played before the school bell. One morning, his paw looked faintly see-through instead.

He hid the fading paw before she noticed. Growing up makes friends fade, he heard. By afternoon, she could almost see through him.

By evening, he was almost completely gone. She drew him, and the fading ran backwards. Every crayon stroke brought him fully back.

Inside her drawing, a small door had opened. Wisp simply moved inside, not fading away. Years later, the framed drawing still glowed softly.

What you keep is what is real.
